photoshop

today i have spent some time looking at photo shop and learning how to use it in an effective way. i have done this because we are planing to use this program to edit the images from the photo shoot to use on the digipack

website

after some thinking we have decided that some of the images taken at the photo shoot could be used as a background or as pictures on our website. we are also in the process of coming up with some more interesting ideas to go on our website.

re filming

we have decided that the quality of camera shots filmed for our intro are not quite up to standard and need to re filmed. we have allocated some time in which we will go back and re film some of the more wobbly shots.

editing the intro

we have also begun the editing process of the intro for our piece. one of the main problems i noticed when putting the shots together is that some of them dont quite match up and there some continuity issues within this sequence. also some of the camera shots are extremely wobbly and needed to be steady shots. this is a problem that we will need to work on in later filming.

filming the introduction

we have begun the filming process of our film and are testing out differnt methods of moving the camera whilst trying to keep a steady shot.

introduction of the video

we have come up with the idea that most music videos of this genre begin with a kind of intro. we have decided to follow these conventions and create an intro of our own.

dance routine

we have approached some dancers and asked them to choreograph a dance for us to use in our music video. they are currently in the process of doing so and will be ready sometime soon.

digipack

we have decided that for our digipack that we are going to have an image of our main artist on the front and a title of some sorts to go with it. With this i mind we arranged with someone to allow us to use there high leval camera and lighting equipment. we took some shots with a black backdrop and some on green screen.

what is a digipack

A digipack is a fold up booklet that can be found in the front of the disk tray. the main function of a digipack is to give more info into what the cd is about. for example there can be lyrics of a song on the album so that you have a better idea about the songs meaning. also this can be portrayed in the form of an image. these images can be of the artist or some shots of the music videos that will tell the reader what to expect from the cd. this is an example of a digipak. as you can see the image of the artist is used with some information about the songs on this particular cd.

examples

this is an example of a music video that uses similar techniques to the ones we are planning to use in our piece. an example is the dancers behind the main artist. this is the effect that we are planning to create.also we can see some of the lighting effects used in this piece which we will consider when filming our piece.

planning equipment

we will need some special equipment for our video so that it gives off the right effect. we will use green screening so that we can layer some of our shots together so that we get the DJ in the background of the shot. also the standerd equipment such as cameras and editing software will be needed to create the video. we have used the editing software and cameras before so we know that it will be ok for our task.

ideas

after listening to the trak a few times we can see that the song is a club song that would fit nicely in that type of atmosphere. therefore we can picture the video being of people dancing in the club. this idea is something that we will have to think about in later production.

ofcom

Ofcom is a usefull website that tells people the terms and conditions needed to be able to air videos or tv shows and what content is and is not allowed to be showed at different times of the day. for example the comsumption of alcohol is not allowed to be shown untill a certain time of the day.

party sequence

after looking at the footage of the party scene we took we found that some of it displayed features that wouldnt be apropriate to air on tv. because of this we decided to find a different style of video. feedback from classmates told us to get some dancers and film a dance routine to play in the background with dj ransome in the foreground. we decided to use this idea in our video.

Initial Ideas

Our first idea was to make our own song. The genre we chose to do was rock because this is a good style to achieve with the skills we had as i can play drums and andrew can play guitar. After we had a few meetings and did some practice tunes we found that neither of us were good enough to play to the standerd needed for rock songs. Our next idea was to play a slower guitar and vocal piece. This was also a bit ambicious as we realised that it would take to long to write and record a whole song. After these attempts we decided to get an existing song rather than create our own. We also chose to change the genre of song now that we had more options to. in the end we chose to do a dance tune that was written for us by an old school friend. In the video we had two ideas that we could do. the first idea was a traditional party sequance. our other idea was some different shots of interesting objects to create good effects. when we pitched our ideas to the group we were told that the party sequance was to difficult as there will be many legal issues involved. After recieving this feedback we have decided to do a dace tune with a group of dancers dancing with dj ransome in the foreground.

Song ideas

After we found some of our other ideas quite hard to do we went for the dance style of music. the song we chose to do is a dance tune. when we first tried to find dance music it was quite hard because of copyright issues. After some research we approched a previous student from school who makes his own music tracks. We asked him to make us a music track so we could use it in our project. This is an image of the email that we recieved givin us exclusive rights to use the track.
the reason that we chose to do a dance tune is because dance is a popular style of music and would be a great style to work with.

Introducion

In this project we have decided to create a music video of some kind. We have also decided to use the cd cover and website to promote our video. In my group we have andrew and myself. i have posted the breif on this blog to show exactly what we have to do.

dance vidoes have many conventions such as....
voyurism which is used so that people will not be able to look away from the screen because the ladies attract peoples attention. some music videos that are aimed at the female audience feature men that are usually muscular.
another main convention that music video

Definition of a promo music video

A music video is a short film or video that accompanies a complete piece of music/song. Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a [marketing] device intended to promote the sale of music recordings. Although the origins of music videos go back much further, they came into their own in the 1980s, when MTV based their format around the medium, and later with the launch of VH1. The term "music video" first came into popular usage in the early 1980s. Prior to that time, these works were described by various terms including "filmed insert", "promotional (promo) film", "promotional (promo) clip" or "film clip".

promo music video

This is an example of a tv advert that is showing a promo music video. as you can see we only get some clips of the video so that we can see what the song is like and not the whole song. this is done to pursuade people to buy or download the video online.

We can see that the clips are only a few seconds long and they all show the section that has the lead singer in. this is done so that the people that watch it can see who sings the song and might be pursuaded to buy it.

Conventions

This is another video that shows us the conventions used in typical music videos.

This video uses a one of Goodwins features also. it has the use of voyerism. this is mainly done in these music tracks to help sell the music because most of the target audience will enjoy watching this type of video.

Goodwins theory

Goodwins theory says that there are many key features used in music videos.
They are.....

-A relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, with the visuals illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the lyrics.
- A relationship between the music and the visuals, with the visuals illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the music.
- Genre-related style and iconography present.
- Multiple close-ups of the main artist or vocalist.
- Voyeurism often plays a major part, especially in relation to females.
- Intertextual references to other media texts may be present

Conventions

Our music track is going to be a dance tune so we need to stick to some of the typical conventions used in most existing dance tunes.
This is an example of a typical music track.

This track doesn't have much links between scenes but uses the same scenes and does cuts to other parts of the same scene.
This piece uses one of Goodwins features. it uses the focusing on the main artist one as we can see the artist of the song repeatedly displayed on screen.

Initial ideas

We were planning to write up our own song to use as the soundtrack for our music video but after we went to the music rooms and started practicing we realised that it would be a very long process and we just didn't have the time to do it. Because of this we have decided to go for a track written by a friend of ours. Our initial ideas for the video was to do a club scene as it fits well with the style of music we will be using.
