promo music video

This is an example of a tv advert that is showing a promo music video. as you can see we only get some clips of the video so that we can see what the song is like and not the whole song. this is done to pursuade people to buy or download the video online.

We can see that the clips are only a few seconds long and they all show the section that has the lead singer in. this is done so that the people that watch it can see who sings the song and might be pursuaded to buy it.

Conventions

This is another video that shows us the conventions used in typical music videos.

This video uses a one of Goodwins features also. it has the use of voyerism. this is mainly done in these music tracks to help sell the music because most of the target audience will enjoy watching this type of video.

Goodwins theory

Goodwins theory says that there are many key features used in music videos.
They are.....

-A relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, with the visuals illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the lyrics.
- A relationship between the music and the visuals, with the visuals illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the music.
- Genre-related style and iconography present.
- Multiple close-ups of the main artist or vocalist.
- Voyeurism often plays a major part, especially in relation to females.
- Intertextual references to other media texts may be present

Conventions

Our music track is going to be a dance tune so we need to stick to some of the typical conventions used in most existing dance tunes.
This is an example of a typical music track.

This track doesn't have much links between scenes but uses the same scenes and does cuts to other parts of the same scene.
This piece uses one of Goodwins features. it uses the focusing on the main artist one as we can see the artist of the song repeatedly displayed on screen.

Initial ideas

We were planning to write up our own song to use as the soundtrack for our music video but after we went to the music rooms and started practicing we realised that it would be a very long process and we just didn't have the time to do it. Because of this we have decided to go for a track written by a friend of ours. Our initial ideas for the video was to do a club scene as it fits well with the style of music we will be using.

Breif

A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following:

A Website homepage for the band

A cover for its release as part of a digipack

A magazine advertisement for the digipack

My group chose to do the website and the cover.
